OUR MISSION
OUR MISSION SPLIT SCREEN
A Pioneering Past
An Uncertain Present
A Timeless Future
A PIONEERING PAST
A Pioneering Past
When our ancestors crossed the Atlantic Ocean three hundred years ago, they were greeted with a vast wilderness of unexplored rivers, mountains, and forests. In order to build the communities and churches that would sustain this new county the old growth forests had to be shaped into usable timbers, boards, and roofing shakes. The quality of the timbers that were cut were unmatched by anything in Europe, whose supply of large, straight, timber had since been logged out. Prior to coming to the New World the craftsmen of Europe had to rely on small, often crooked trees to sustain their building needs. This was not the case in America. The trees that they found here were so numerous that a squirrel could literally run amongst the tree canopy for miles and never touch the ground. The trucks of American chestnut, red oak, elm, and beech would often times exceed eighty to ninety feet from the ground to the first set of branches. The quality of this newly discovered lumber was so spectacular for working and building that it changed how the age-old methods of timber framing were carried out. No longer did a framer need to use short, bent, timbers to construct a barn or meeting house. They could now hew a timber fifty feet long to make an uninterrupted sill plate or ridge beam. And these early American tradesmen did just that. Combining the time tested building styles of the Old World with a seemingly endless supply of quality timber; these pioneers shaped a new nation.

An Uncertain Present
But the progress that drove the early settlers to open the frontiers of America also led to advances in building technology and architecture. By the end of the 19th Century, timber framed barns, houses, and churches had been replaced with structures that could be built with milled lumber from a saw mill. The old growth forests of yester year are now gone, and the timbers harvested from those forests now only survive in rural barns and homesteads. Walking into a Midwestern barn today one is instantly awed by the sheer size of the beams and board facings that were used in its construction. Light pours through hay lofts, cupolas, and board cracks to reveal beautifully textured timbers still bearing the broad axe marks of those early craftsmen. If you look closely you can make out the faint outline of pencil marks left by the framer who laid out the barn'’s joinery. One can easily imagine these master carpenters planning for their work to survive and sustain the family for which they were built for centuries to come. The difference between these old barns and their modern counterparts is that the vintage barns have a soul. You can feel it when you run your fingers along the ancient tool marks and it becomes easy to imagine a simpler time. As time goes on these historic structures are falling into disrepair. As the years go by, one-by-one, the old timber framed barns are being lost to development, neglect, and the elements. The structures that were cut from the early forests of America, and that were built to survive hundreds of years, and falling into ruin.
A TIMELESS FUTURE
A Timeless Future
Our company recognizes the importance of these historic structures surviving into the future. By utilizing that same spirit of innovation that drove the early pioneers Timeless Timber Frame Company uses modern equipment, tempered with years of traditional timber framing experience to bring these old barns to life. Imagine a vintage barn that has been so neglected that it is about to be destroyed by the elements or a developer. Now imagine that barn being taken apart, piece-by-piece, and transformed into a rustic lodge in the mountains of Whitefish, Montana. Imagine a historic Midwestern barn being converted into a spectacular wine tasting hall in California, or as an open and inviting office in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Now imagine those old timbers, reverberating with the supple sounds of an acoustic guitar in an intimate recording studio built to accommodate the thriving music industry of Nashville, Tennessee. At the Timeless Timber Frame custom shop, we can transform the virgin forests cleared by pioneers’ centuries ago, into architectural works of art.

AMERICAN HOMES
Early American Homes
Colonial houses are amazing homes to look at and to visit. Early American homes were designed around function but were beautiful as well. Oftentimes a family would build a two story dwelling when they first started out. As th family grew, they would extend the roofline and add addtional footage to the house. Thus the saltbox home was born. We at Timeless Timber Frame Company believe that the early Americans had the right idea about home design and we strive to recreate those houses of a bygone era. Whether an early Cap Cod style house, a classic Colonial Saltbox home, or a stately Hall-and-Parlor structure, we can build a timber frame which will follow the form of the early homes, but with a twist. We'll build it out of wood that was harvested at the same time period that we are replicating. Imagine an early looking, highly efficient, house that is framed with two hundred year old lumber. When you buy one of our early American homes, you will be buying a historic looking home and saving early pioneer barns at the same time. Style and heritage, that's what we do here at Timeless Timber Frame Company.
